1. Starting Point: Deal, PA
Our journey begins at the high point of the Great Allegheny Passage just east of the Deal Trail Access
Leaving the Deal Trailhead, you’ll have to turn left and backtrack just a bit to the Eastern Continental Divide – Elevation 2390’ above sea level – the high point of the GAP. At that location, water on the east side of the short underpass flows into Laurel Run, Wills Creek, the Potomac, and the Atlantic Ocean.
From the west side, where you came from, the water forms Daugherty Creek, which flows into the Casselman River at Meyersdale. Now, head back to deal and, crossing the creek several times, the first stop.
2. First Stop: Meyersdale, Pennsylvania – The Maple City
As you enter Pennsylvania, Meyersdale greets you with open arms. Affectionately known as ‘The Maple City,’ it’s where the sweet scent of maple syrup can almost be tasted in the air.
